چکیده
Herpes simplex virus 2 (HSV-2) is a well-known cause of neurological complications. This case study describes the first reported reactivated HSV-2 myelitis, which was induced by immunosuppression due to sepsis. During treatment meningococcal meningitis, patient developed quadriparesis and later diagnosed as mimicking ICU-acquired weakness. The emphasizes importance excluding viral myelitis before making diagnosis

Recurrent herpes simplex virus type 2 meningitis: a case report of Mollaret's meningitis.
It is well known that herpes simplex virus (HSV) type 2 produces acute meningitis, while HSV type 2 rarely causes recurrent meningitis (Mollaret's meningitis). We report the history of a 40-year-old patient with recurrent HSV type 2 meningitis (Mollaret's meningitis). The patient had seven episodes of meningeal symptoms within a 7-year period. In the seventh episode, HSV type 2 DNA was confirme...

Non-traumatic myelopathies can result from a wide spectrum of conditions including inflammatory, ischemic, and metabolic disorders. Here, we describe the case of a 60-year old immunocompetent woman who developed acute back pain followed by rapidly ascending flaccid tetraparesis, a C6 sensory level, and sphincter dysfunction within 8 h. Acyclovir and steroids were started on day 2 and herpes sim...
متن کاملHerpes Simplex Myelitis: Differences in Clinical Manifestations Between Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 and Type 2
Various clinical types of central nerve infection caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV) have been identified, and the clinical features of not only encephalitis and meningitis, but also Mollaret meningitis and Elsberg syndrome, have been clarified (Tyler, 2004; Eberhardt et al., 2004). Myelitis is rare, and it has been mostly reported as ascending myelitis, necrotizing myelitis or myeloradiculit...
متن کاملRecurrent herpes simplex type 2 virus (Mollaret) meningitis.
Mollaret meningitis is a rare form of meningitis that is recurrent, aseptic, mild, and self-limiting. When initially described by Mollaret, this form of aseptic meningitis had no identifiable infecting agent. New sophisticated diagnostic tools have now identified Herpes simplex type 2 virus as the most commonly isolated agent. The case presented in this article is of a patient with a history of...
